Established in 1975, the Textile Museum of Canada houses a collection of over 15,000 textiles, handmade by individuals and cultural groups from around the world, embodying expressions of diverse identities and material cultures. The textiles in the Museum's collection originate from over 200 regions of the world and incorporate textile traditions from North, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania. In 2012, the Museum received a donation of over 200 Guatemalan textiles from Donna E. Stewart, the largest donation of its kind in the Museum's history. The Museum's collection of nearly 600 textiles from Guatemala plays a significant role in showcasing the vibrant fabric and garments that reflect the dynamic relationship between tradition and innovation within Maya culture.
