Summer in the City.
The summer months are a great time to try a new artistic adventure.
Kids entering JK through to Grade 4 can take part in our Alice in Wonderland Integrated Arts Camp, for either a half-day or a full-day session throughout July and August. Planned around creative and educational themes, these summer arts camps are jam-packed with visual arts, drama and music activities.
Children aged 19 months-4 years, with a parent or caregiver, can participate in week-long Toddler Arts Programs. As well, wee ones can have fun in Preschool Music, a once-a-week program with Juno Award-winner Jennifer Gould.
Kids and teens in Grades 3-10 can choose from a wide range of classes, from Landscape Painting to Musical Theatre to Clay Masks & Puppets.
Adults and teens 15+ can also have some summer fun at the School, exploring their creativity through many painting, drawing and mixed media based summer arts programs.

Life Drawing. No instructor.
This open studio format allows each artist to determine their own needs – from quick studies to extended poses. There is no instructor and each participant chooses their own media. No materials are provided by the gallery.

Introduction to Printmaking for Teens and Adults – with Amanda McKinney.
This session will teach two different ways to create prints. Exploring line, colour and composition, have fun transferring your ideas into multiple prints on paper.

Drawing the Human Figure – with Brigitte Huard.
Drawing the human figure is both rewarding and very challenging. If your drawn limbs look like noodles, you tend to hide the hands and feet, can't get the eyes straight, or ignore the head and face entirely, this course will aim to help you with proportion, structure, and anatomy so that this stops happening (we hope!). Different methods will be used to give the student a variety of ways to resolve their difficulties as well as enhance their skills and understanding. Screen Printing on T-Shirts – with Maaike Bouhuyzen-Wenger.
Get creative and have a great time during this two-session workshop where you will learn the basics of screen printing techniques for t-shirts. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the art of drawing in a variety of dry media, and is perfectly suited for those who are interested in experimenting with mixed media. Each session includes a theme-of-the-day introduction and free drawing session with the encouraging guidance and constructive feedback.

Experimental Painting Studio.
Challenge your preconceptions about what constitutes a painting and how it might be created. Contemporary Painting: Independent Study.
Explore alternatives to traditional and classical approaches to figurative art while incorporating contemporary practice in painting today. Students will work from photos and imagination (no model).

The open studio presents an opportunity to sketch, draw or paint the human form. Develop the ability to capture the likeness of any model through a series of quick poses. Participants may work in any medium in an open, unassisted environment.

Mixed Media & Experimental Painting – All Levels.
Using various media – charcoal, conté, ink, pastels, acrylics, basic printmaking techniques and collage - students are encouraged to explore the creative process. Learn to enjoy the "journey" rather than being fixated on the end result through a series of fun and experimental projects. Beginners are welcome, and more advanced students will have an opportunity to focus on their own individual projects – with the guidance and critiquing from the experienced teacher and artist Suzanne Metz.

The Expressive Figure.
This course is designed to stretch your abilities in expressive drawing and painting. Traditional mark making approaches will be applied to expressive painting techniques. Landscape Painting Master Class: On-location and In-studio Workshop.

A Show of Hands & Feet.
Often the most expressive parts of the human figure are hands and feet, and they are also the most difficult to draw or paint. Aimed at beginners as well as emerging artists whose focus is on the figure, this course provides invaluable assistance in mastering the rendering of those problematic areas. From small, rapid sketches to detailed drawings, students will revisit the human figure and learn how to draw the gestures and actions of hands and feet. Together we will look at a variety of painting, drawing, printmaking and sculptural techniques and experiment with a different media, such as clay, plastic, wood, wire or fabric, to find new ways of expressing our ideas.
