Now in its 22nd year, the Artists in their Environment Studio Tour takes place over two autumn weekends this year, including the long Thanksgiving weekend. Once again we invite you to travel the backroads of the Gatineau Hills and the scenic villages of Wakefield and Chelsea to visit 22 studios where artists and craftspeople look forward to showing you their latest work and sharing their sources of inspiration. The range of works is diverse – from traditional to contemporary, including fine & rustic furniture, glasswork, painted textiles, pottery, photography, candles, mixed-media art, jewellery, sculpture, plus paintings in oil & acrylic, pastels & watercolours.
New this year, Freshwater Paddles, a special exhibition of 30 canoe paddles transformed into one-of-a-kind works of art by current and past tour participants. Sales proceeds will be donated to WaterCan, a leading Canadian charity dedicated to helping the world's poorest gain access to clean water. Funds raised will assist in the building of wells in the Wakiso district of Uganda thus saving women and girls from walking several kilometers each day to collect water from contaminated sources. Most importantly, children will stand a better chance to survive their early years when they are most vulnerable to water-borne diseases.
Visit the tour website to print a map of the tour route or find a location that stocks brochures, view individual artist pages containing photo galleries & learn more about the Freshwater Paddles exhibition.
