All Rag No Bone – Fennel Plunger Corporation – collective production of Jean-Paul Kelly (Toronto), Steve Reinke (Chicago) and Anne Walk (Vancouver).
Opening night features a performance by Anne Walk.
Artists' talk Sat 11 Sep, 3pm – all three members will be present to discuss their work.
Hard times, these are hard times. All rag, no bone. Fennel Plunger has everything, of course, but it would not do to rub it in people's faces, so this exhibition is dedicated to all of you working class heroes. We say, "Keep up your good work," and in return Fennel Plunger will continue to provide you with straightforward, edifying art in a range of genres / price ranges. We've learned a lot in the past few years from the whirlwind ascendancy and subsequent fall of relational aesthetics. We've learned that McLuhan did it better, or thought it better. In 1967 grooviness was the glue that kept it all together. Ten years later, the groovy dried up and we were left with a pile of dusty, glue-specked aphorisms that didn't seem to make any sense. But now, in the wake of social practices, our McLuhan makes sense as it never did. For instance, in 1967, "The medium is the massage" was just a bad pun. Now, you would get actual massage, though perhaps administered by untrained school children. All massage, no message. And no medium, everything well done.

Main Gallery – Uros Jelic: Oil – an exhibition of mixed media paintings, depicting practices and mishaps of oil industry. “I began working on the “Oil” theme in 2009, with the intention of increasing awareness about these practices, but the bizarre chain of events in the Gulf of Mexico made this series incredibly timely.” – Uros Jelic. Paintings have expressive, experimental and intuitive quality with paint applied in various ways: spraying, dripping, using brush and roller, stamping, stenciling and drawing with paint sticks. This approach creates diverse textures while preserving the identity of materials used. The end result is figurative painting with deep exploration into the possible uses of media. North Gallery – Gillian Iles: That's Not How We Do Things Here.
